Motorola , Droid Phone Reviews: We’re getting this now as: Droid is Motorola phone with Google in the market. Maybe that’s not saying much. The Droid only competitors in the U.S. are T-1 – Mobile G1 years of age, the fat little brother MyTouch Droid 3G and HTC Eris, a phone with Verizon Wireless’ $ 99 next Friday – the same day as the droid Motorola – with the now obsolete -Android operating system.
Here’s another: Droid is the best phone for Verizon.
As we wrote last week, the droid marks a turnabout for the largest company in the nation. Verizon – often known for its service, not its selection of phones – it seems prudent to minimize interference with phone manufacturers.
What we get is a smartphone attractive and easy to fill to the brim with features at $ 199 (with a two-year contract).
The hardware Droid is a technical feat. It has a 5 megapixel camera with flash that does not work exceptionally well but is still quite large for a phone. The loud speaker is nice. The touchscreen display is great – bigger than the iPhone with more pixels per inch.
Oh, and has a keyboard.
After spending much time with the iPhone and MyTouch, we realized how much I do not miss the physical keyboard. Granted not the droid is as good as most Blackberry keyboards. They threw as many typos in the droid black-and-white-and brown keyboard as we did in the keyboard. The only problem is that it offers automatic corrections as we have on the touch pad.
Surprisingly, the sliding keyboard does not add much thickness compared to the iPhone – the droid is only slightly larger and considerably heavier. The keyboard is a good choice (pro geeks enjoy the shortcuts), but if you are digging, never take it out.
Motorola takes a step back with its navigation buttons. Competing Android phones use a scroll ball – you know, that little bump that makes the Blackberry so good for e-mail. Instead, the bet navigation Droid four-way rocker with a middle button, located next to the keyboard and provides little benefit.
Under the hood, the droid running a version of Android 2.0, becoming the first device to have. That means that the packages of features and polish can not see in others – in particular the free Google Maps software navigation.
Android really has come a long way in a year. The keyboard is smarter, more sophisticated applications including subtleties and switching between programs more natural.
But since Google’s operating system has arrived, follows several steps behind Apple’s iPhone in many ways. While Apple started to leave the copy and paste feature for so long, there’s something to say about the way that was finally implemented. It’s simple and works amazingly well.
Moreover, the text selection in the droid brings us nuts. The option is hidden behind a menu screen, there is no intelligent magnifying glass to help pick the right section, and copy, you must return to find the option somewhere in the menus.
This design choice highlights a problem that plagues Android still prevails. Some actions are quite common hidden, including the basic ability to remove applications.
(Here’s a tip to not look like a puppet in the Verizon store: Click the lock icon and turn right to open the phone. Most people who play with our review unit was unable to find the way to get on the phone.)
Button designs can vary widely from one application to another. The transition between the many programs that can run simultaneously works pretty well, but some may be closed, while others gobble up battery power without notice.
Android Marketplace offers more than 10,000 applications – certainly not on par with Apple’s library of 100,000, but the Android selection covers most major utilities.
As a game system is extremely poor. As a multimedia player, is even worse.
Enough iPhone can replace a separate iPod. The Droid not. Getting songs to the thing is a nuisance. No media synchronization, no smart playlists, no TV shows or movies.
Of course, we love some of the features Motorola built exclusively for this phone – things that never could be done on the iPhone without Apple engineers build themselves. For example, the book integrates Droid phone with your contacts from Facebook.
But these benefits are not just for the insight and maturity of the iPhone’s operating system Android has yet to match.
However, as a phone, the droid is first rate. It also integrates with Google voice and runs on Verizon, a telecommunications with a superior reputation for reliable call coverage – unlike AT & T, the exclusive carrier for the iPhone.
At least for the next two months, Droid crowns used better and better device Android phone for Verizon.
However, Google is constantly making improvements in the shade for mobile system, so who knows how long? Over the phone makers over the Google car, next year could well mark the rebirth of Droid.

With the HTC Touch Pro2 going to Sprint and AT&T network in US, a spy photo of the Touch Pro2 with Verizon Wireless branding is indicating an upcoming releases of the smartphone for its subsribers. Featuring a sliding QWERTY keyboard, the Touch Pro2 has an improved TouchFLO 3D and a new HTC Push Internet technology. It also has the new Straight Talk technology, delivers an integrated email, voice and speakerphone experience. There is no estimated release date leaked at the moment.
