Monday, March 31st, 2008

When choosing adsense for your website one of the things you will need to know is the right ad format. Not al formats convert the same or even work on your site. The adsense ads are best dominated by testing and learning from trial and error. Ad formats depend on the placement on your website

The Leaderboard ad format is quite popular. It is 728 X 90 in size and sits atop your webpage. As many as four ads fit nicely inside the leaderboard and the ads are arranged from left to right. This can be an attractive layout and will fit with almost any website format.

If you want to put banner type ads on your site you should pick the 468 x 60 banner with 2 ads in it. This type of banner can be used very effectively on top of content or below it. The half banner only shows 1 ad and can be used everywhere on your site. Its size is 234 x 60 pixels. However if you want to go for a more vertical layout of your ads the 120 x 240 pixels vertical banner may be the one you are looking for

If you want to show a single ad in a very atractive way than take a look at the square 125 x 125 layout. You can mix the ad colors with an eye-catching background to make it stand out and you will surely draw a lot of attention to this ad

If you need ads to be shown on one or either side of your content a skyscraper holding 3 or 4 ads can be the solution. The skyscraper was specificaly designed for this purpose and its format is 120 x 600 pixels. If you would like to have more space for ads choose the 160 x 600 wide sky scraper because this one can hold 5 ads

Several rectangle formats are used for in content display. The first one of them is the 180 x 150 pixels small rectangle holding one ad. The medium formt holds 3 or 4 ads in a 300 x 250 pixels layout and the large rectangle ad unit is measuring 336 x 280 pixels for up to 4 ads. The second square rectangle measures 250 x 250 and can also hold video ads

If you use image-based Adsense ads, you can choose the Leader Board which you will find placed across the top of many websites. It measures 728 X 90. The Banner is a smaller ad that measure 468 X 60. The Sky Scraper and Wide Sky Scraper are also choices for use on the sides of a webpage. Or you can choose the Medium Rectangle format. All of these image ads hold a single image.

There are also various layouts for displaying Link Unit Adsense ads so that they will fit well into your website also. They can be stacked, lined up across the top or bottom and allow just as much variety as the text and image ads.

How to use Adwords Conversion Tracking

Monday, March 31st, 2008

If you want to pay less for your adwords campaigns you should keep a close eye on your conversion rates. By tracking your conversion you will gatter important information about your adwords campaign performance thus allowing you to tweak it when needed.

The conversion rate is the percentage of purchases of your services or products compared to the total number of people who visited your website through the adwords ad. It is of your best interest to keep this number as high as possible. If you have very low conversion rates you need to tweak your campaign and ad settings as soon as possible to get those numbers up. Refining your ads and choosing better keywords are the first step.

Google has set up a tool in your adwords account that allows you to do some exact conversion tracking for each campaign and each ad. This tool shows you exactly what your rates are and which ads are performing well so you can discard the poor performing ones. Look for patterns that can give you an idea of what might be going wrong in a certain campaign or ad so you can modify the poor performing ads.

The factors that determine adwords conversion are many. The first step is to get people clicking your ad and visit your site but the ultimate goal is to make people visit your site and buy your product or service or even generate a lead for a future sale. You are failing to convert when a visitor is not signing up for your newsletter or doesn’t buy anything from you. Your site layout, design and information provided on it will largely influence your conversion rates. If your site is not user friendly your are very likely to loose a lot of customers due to poor conversion.

Even the greatest Google Adwords campaign won’t generate conversions into sales or sign-ups if the website the visitor sees is ugly, hard to use or doesn’t offer what the advertisement stated. One example seen all too often is the Google ad that indicates “free” but the visitor find that they actually have to pay. Be sure that your website offers exactly what your Google Adwords campaign promises. If you tell the visitor they will find something for “free” then it must be there and it must be free of charge.
