Sony Ericsson K508i Review

Sony Ericsson Z600

The Sony Ericsson K508i—a model exclusive to T-Mobile—is more or less the same phone as their K500i model, except it is slightly larger and thicker, it has different options for face color and backgrounds, and it has a somewhat redesigned keypad, making this mobile somewhat easier to use that its widely available cousin.

The main feature that distinguishes this mobile from its competitors is its .3 megapixel, 4X digital zoom camera that encompasses both still and video grabbing ability. With one click camera access, one click photos, and an easy manipulation of Sony Ericsson’s Quickshareâ„¢ technology—allowing you to send pics over E-mail or MMS—you can take spontaneous photos and share them with your friends almost instantly.

Also like its near identical cousin, the K500i, this cell phone is excellent for gamers. With 65,536 colors and TFT software that keeps the phone glowing and vibrant even in direct sunlight, The K508i will make sure that all of the 45 3-D or 175 2-D java games that the phone can hold will appear crisp and colorful on the phone’s large screen.

Unlike the lower end K300i series, the K500i is MP3 compatible, effectively turning your phone into a moving Walkman. Unfortunately, the phone does not come with an FM radio or Bluetooth capability, although at the current stage of technology the level of quality on a separate MP3 player remains higher than that on any similarly priced mobile phone.

12 MB of memory means that you may be wishing for an upgrade (either to the D750i—another T-mobile exclusive—or to the K700i, with 32 and 40 MB of data holding respectively), especially if you want to house a number of 3-D games, in addition to pictures, photos, and MP3s.

With up to 7 hours of talk time (I’ve found that it stretches to a little under 8 hours, although the official press release says 420 minutes), and almost 2 weeks of standby time, this phone won’t leave you without battery unless you really hate plugging it in.

Basically, this phone is ideal for T-Mobile users who want the ease of use of this phone’s one click camera function, while maintaining a reasonable price and excellent game play capability. It is definitely a phone that is suitable for all ages, and is perfect for the gamers in all of us.
