The E300 is an impressive basic to mid-level phone with limited features set into a handsome package. Although many phones currently being released are equipped with enormous amounts of memory, MP3 players, digital camera with megapixel strength, and a slew of connectivity options, the E300 is not filled with many features at all, at least comparatively. The digital camera takes pictures at 640 X 480 pixels, which is not bad, but compared with the more recent advent of 1.3 or 2 megapixel camera/phone hybrids, the quality seems poor. The camera is good for taking photos to put next to your friends’ names in the address book, and for sending low-quality novelty shots through MMS, SMS, E-mail or using the built in infrared connectivity, but they are not impressive, and sometimes come out murky or dark. Although this phone is very similar to a number of other flip form models, its closest companion, the Samsung E310, is only available on the Vodafone network. Other than that, one can buy a large amount of different E-series flip phones from Samsung and expect to obtain more or less the same device. The E300 has two respectable 65K color screens, both internal and external, and it is adequate for viewing the low pixel pictures and short (30 second) video clips that its camera can capture. The display is not bad, but there are a number of phones available with 262K colors and 176 X 220 pixels, making the E300 appear somewhat small and grainy at 128 X 160 pixels. Polyphonic ringtones, JavaÔ games and WAP 2.0 web surfing are other features offered by the E300. Basic is the name of the game here, and although everything here works well, people should keep in mind that as far as these things go this is almost the lowest level of functionality being put out right now. Other phones with flashier features run the risk of being buggy. The E300, on the other hand, is a well-crafted phone, and most people have found that what it does, it does quite well. If you are in the market for a Samsung with a few more features, then the D500 is waiting for you to buy it up right now. But if raw functionality without pomp or circumstance is your bag, then really the E300 could be right up your alley.
